Research Projects:

-         There are seventeen projects in progress.

-         Six have been recently completed with final reports. Three of which are in the process of being critically Reviewed - Lazarovits 94B-3, Troutt 99A-5 and Greene 99A-3.

-         Two Projects have been completed and awaiting a final report: Schelling 97B-2 - Dr. Schelling has been seriously ill and Tacon 99B-2 - Dr. Tacon has left the employment of Oceanic Institute. Final Report will be forthcoming.

-         The current listings of projects has resulted in a considerable increase in time commitment in developing protocol, identifying a researcher and actually becoming involved in the research process i.e. - Lazarovits 94B-3, Troutt 99A-5, Greene 99A-3, Viral Inactivation 00A-1, Wang Yan (China), 00A-4, Meerdink 00B-2, NREL 00B-3 and IMDC 00B-5. An enhanced number of projects have been initiated in which only a concept is presented and which substantial protocol modification or a protocol development has been required.

Biofuel/Burner Fuel/Biodiesel:

-   Other than the activities related to BSE/TSE there has not been an activity as time intensive in administering to the calls, email, Fax and written requests for information as during the past six months concerning the use of animal rendered products as energy sources. Inquiries originated from virtually every conceivable source, including a heavy request load from the membership. To date these efforts have resulted in an appreciable amount of our products “being burned forever” at substantial economic benefits. Additionally FPRF has become the reference stakeholder for the utilization of animal fats as alternative fuels and has supplemented the biodiesel initiatives. Background values have likewise been published for protein ingredients.
